Worth seeing around

Outside the town is the Convent of Ss. Annunziata, the most known and ancient of those belonging to the Friars Minor; immersed in the green of an ilex grow. You get into it by a courtyard in front of the church; a permanent crib in plaster, the work of the Spanish artist Juan Maria Oliva can be seen. The convent houses also a planetarium. At Foce worth seeing is the Cistercian convent with the Sanctuary of the Virgin in which an old and miraculous frescoed image of the Virgin is venerated.
Porchiano, in a beautiful panoramic position, retains stretches of the medieval walls spaced out with towers. Worth seeing is the Romanesque parish church dedicated to St. Simeone in which is kept a stone stained with the blood of the miracle of Bolsena. In the ilex park it's possible to visit the romanesque church of the Ss. Trinity with frescoes of the 14th and 15th cent.
At Fornole, at the top of the park of St. Sylvester, a little Romanesque church contains a fresco of St. Sylvester who, according to the legend, freed the town from the witchcraft of a drake.

Environmental sights

Amelia too has its little "wet zone". The "Lago Vecchio" a picturesque stretch of water obtained with the dam on the Rio Grande, over the time and thanks to the accumulation of sediments, has acquired more and more the feature of a charming pond whose banks, in their own small way resemble those of the lake of Alviano: with the alders, the willows, the poplars. In calm moments it's not unusual to spot the flight of a wild duck or a spectacular heron.
The "Lago Vecchio" can be crossed with a rowing boat, leaving from a berth by the communal road to Macchie, going along its loops and reaching the great medieval brick dam.

Strolls

Quite a few are the equipped parks immersed in the evergreen ilex grove and located in the nearby surroundings. Noteworthy: "La Cavallerizza", where there's a small race-course and a ring path in the wood, good for relaxing strolls and for jogging; the "St. Sylvester Park" at Fornole, and the "Parco Mattia" at Porchiano, equipped for picnicking.
