Spoleto - Monteluco - Campello sul Clitunno

  • Leaving Spoleto in the direction of Monteluco, on the right of the road we find the churh of S. Pietro (XII-XIII century). A few kilometres further up the hill can be found the church of S. Giuliano, which dates back to the twelfth century. Further on, we arrive in Monteluco where it is possible to admire the monastery of S. Francesco (XV century). The splendid view of yhe plain of spoleto can be enjoyed from Belvedere (a well-known vantage point). On the way back to Spoleto, take the S.S. Flaminia, in the direction of Foligno for 7 kilometres to the little town of S. Giacomo, which has an interesting fifteenth century castle and a parish church (XIII century) with interesting frescoes by Giovanni Spagna. Further along the S.S. Flaminia in the direction of Foligno, we reach the town of Campello sul Clitunno, with its famous Fonti, the sources of the River Clitunno, the Tempietto, a smalt temple of the fifth century A.D., the churches of S. Maria della Bianca (XVI century), S. Maria di costantinopoli (XVI-XVII century), S. Lorenzo (XII century), S. Sebastiano (XVI century), S. Maria (XIII century), the monastery of the Barnabiti (a castle dating from the XI-XII century), and the castle of Pissignano, (XI century). It is possible to reach the summit of Monte Serano (1429 m. above sea level) before returning to Spoleto.

Spoleto - Castel Ritaldi - Giano dell'Umbria

  • From Spoleto follow the signpost to Montefalco, turning off at Pontebari in the direction of Morgano, where it is possible to admire the recently restored thirteenth century castle. returnig to Pontebari, take the road heading north again in the direction of Montefalco; after a few kms., you reach S. Brizio on the left, where the reamins of the castle and the parish church (XII-XIII century) are open to visitors. Continuing north, Castel Ritaldi is the next stop on the left. Visits should include the castle (XIII century), the churches of S. Marina (XIV-XV century), S. Nicola (Xv century), the country church (the pieve) of S. Gregorio in Nido (XII century), the sanctuary of the Madonna della Bruna (XVI century), and the castle of S. Giovanni (XIV century). Continuing north, we reach Giano dell'Umbria with its castle (XII-XIII century), the churches of S. Francesco (XIV century) and S. Michele Arcangelo (XII-XIII century), the Municipio or town hall (XIII century), the marvellous Abbey of S. Felice (which was rebuilt in the XII century), the castle of Montecchio (XIII-XIV century), and its church dedicated to S. Bartolomeo (XIII century).
