The Town Centre is immediately recognizable from the Motorway (A1) between Orvieto and Attigliano.
The medieval area is particularly charming. It's named "I buchi" (the holes). The name was given because of the tiny dimensions of the houses, of the alleys, of the doors and of the windows. A real little ancient world, well preserved.
The church of St. Nicolò is very beautiful. It has been declared a monument of national relevance. It was designed in 1574 by Ippolito Scalza. Inside there's a precious triptych of 1440 by the sienese painter Giovanni di Paolo and over the door there's a marvellous organ of the 18th cent. with 500 pipes.
In the town centre the Town Hall is coeval to the church. Inside it you can see the "Marroca", a big sandstone head of uncertain origin dating back probably to the 16th century. People here are very fond of this sculpture and of the mistery around it. In the neighbourhood of Baschi, in a place called Scoppieto a very old Roman Ceramics Factory has been discovered. The working and the decoration of the earthenware, of ancient tradition in this area and particularly rooted in the nearby Orvieto, finds, because of this archaeologic finding a further confirmation back in time. The factory belonged to two brothers, Lucius Zosimus and Publius Avilius Zosimus. They used to sign their product, refined table-ware, with their own mark. The pottery found dates back to the 1st century A. D.. The excavations are at the moment still in progress.
