What's the Amerino
The territory of the "Comunità Montana dell'Amerino" is made up of small towns or villages, which range from 2,000 inhabitants to about 11,000, totalling 27,444 inhabitants.
The territory handled extends on a surface of 450 square Kilometres, ranging between the 68 metres altitude of the Tiber Valley and the 994 of the "Croce di Serra" Mount.
In spite of its modest dimension, the area is provided with a lot of facilities: there's a hospital in Amelia, 24 hours first aid ambulances, six "Carabinieri" stations, many bank counters. As for tourist information there's an APT (Tourist Promotion Authority) spot in Amelia, and quite a few "Pro-Loco", the local information offices.

How to get there
You can get to the Amerino via four main communication lines; the A1 Motorway coming from North at the Orvieto, Attigliano and Orte exits.

  • The Viterbo-Cesena Motorway (to be named in the near future Tirreno-Adriatico), at the Orte exit
  • The Florence-Rome Railway (the fast line) at the Orvieto, Baschi, Alviano, Attigliano and Orte stations.
  • The Rome-Ancona Railway alighting at Orte and Narni-Amella stations. The nearest airport is Rome Fiumicino.
  • Should you choose the plane+train combination, you can get to Termini Station with a shuttle train service and then catch the train to Orte. This last stretch will take you 40 minuts.

. How to move
Once you're here, you can move in different ways:
  • by car: it's the best way because it makes you reach the most beautiful and charming places even those off the beaten track;
  • by bus, with ATAC bus lines which link all the towns;
  • by taxi;
  • hiring a car a motorbike or a bike;
  • on horseback: there are many maneges providing horses for all skill levels;
  • on foot: the "Comunitagrave; Montana" has traced out, and provided with signs, six paths for trekking.

The Amerino and Centre Italy The Amerino is an ideal territory to move around in Centre Italy, to reach beautiful places, and visit the main sights in the "Bel Paese". If you stay for enough days in the Amerino you'lI notice that the environment is unpolluted and far from chaos, and the cuisine is excellent. You could visit:

  • art cities: Rome (about 80 km by motorway, 40 mins by train); Florence (about 180 km by motorway, 2 hrs 40 mins by train); Assisi (about 100 km by motorway, 1hr 50 mins by train); and there are even nearer places like Orvieto, Todi, Perugia, Viterbo, Spoleto, Cascia;
  • the sea-side: it's about 100 kms far; the nearest beaches are Tarquinia and Capalbio
  • the mountains: Mt. Terminillo is about 70 kms far, same distance for Visso-Ussita;
  • the lakes: the nearest (50 kms) are Piediluco, Vico and Bolsena.
