FABRO, 28 km. from Orvieto, stands on a height which overlooks the Autostrada del Sole between Rome and Florence.
It is a historical centre that originally developed around a medieval fortification and then in recent times spread out down in the valley, about 5 km. away, near the throughway exit, where a sizeable industrial-craft zone with exhibition and fair facilities has been built.
A bit further off (2 km.) is the Railroad Station, around which a considerable number of houses have risen.
An important market fair of truffles and the products of agriculture is held here every year in the middle of November.
The hamlet of Carnaiola stands on a hill nearby.
Of particular interest is an old medieval castle which was further fortified in the sixteenth- seventeenth centuries, when it belonged to the noble Filippeschi and Marsciano families.
In addition to wine and oil, typical of the District of Orvieto, Fabro also still produces various forms of crafts, such as earthenware.
A secondary activity far the citizens of Fabro is the gathering of white truffles, although in recent years the processing and commercialisation of this premium product has been undergoing considerable development.
