Sant'Apollinare Castle Saint Sebastiano (fresco by Perugino)

Marsciano
Welcome in the Municipality of Marsciano in its fertile countryside in which the Tiber river flows, and among the gentle hills characterized by small villages and Medieval castles.
It is a territory where woods of holm-oaks and oaks coexist with the maquis and with the wisely cultivated fields of grapevines, olive trees, of sunflowers and of wheat and where the thousands of colours of the seasons diffuse tranquillity and harmony.
The torrent Fersinone valley is still uncontaminated and offers the tourist and the naturalist's
eyes water games, smooth stones and the spontaneous vegetation of its banks.
The typical villages of Migliano, St. Apollinare, Monte Vibiano, Campignano, Morcella with the modern one of Montelagello, built on hilltops, bring with them memories of the history and of the coexistence between ancient and modern times.
Along the ancient lines of communication with Orvieto, there are the towns of Spina and Mercatello which preserve Medieval ruins, of Monticelli which preserves XVth century paintings; towards Perugia, along the national road of the hill, with an impressive view of the Umbrian hills, there is Cerqueto where a precious painting by Perugino is preserved inside the parish church.
The main theme of the territory's lifestyle is changing by preserving its roots and planning the future with respect and love towards the past. Industrial activities are characterized by the production of bricks and outdoor furniture. Traditions live also today in the hospitality of its inhabitants, in the numerous celebrations which take place in each town especially in summer, in the high-quality craftmanship which boasts the production of the loom-manufactured tissues bearing ancient Umbrian designs or in the knitwear made of high-quality yarns, in the weekly market held on monday in Marsciano which dates back to the XVIth century, as well. Traditions are to be found in the very famous typical gastronomy with the hand-made pasta, with the local cheese cake, the genuine cold meats, the game, the grilled meat, the locally produced wine and oil, the typical cakes such as wafers cooked with ancient pieces of iron heated on the fire.
The twinships between Marsciano and the towns of Tremblay-en-France (France), Orosei (Nuoro) and Loropeni (Burkina Faso) show the desire for novelty and for friendship that our inhabitants can express.
