A great tradition of the arts and crafts is to be expected in a city as rich in history as Orvieto, and it is still alive and flourishing in various sectors. In the production of pottery, the working of metals, leather, wood and the typical lace of Orvieto, age-old gestures repeat themselves, creating new objects where the hand of man is still clearly discernible.
The masterworks of the craft tradition are the works of art and, in its long history, the city of Orvieto has acquired a wealth of outstanding examples of the artistic culture of various periods. Preservation of these objects that bear witness to the past has been entrusted to the various museums which are in the process of being reorganised to offer a more efficient and modern museum system:
