Itineraries

Towards the archaeological Roman remains and the thermal resorts

  • You leave from Terni on the State road no. 79 and arrive in Cesi (8 km), a medieval village; 5 km further on are the remains of Carsulae, located along the old Via Flaminia of which obvious evidence may be observed. You continue along the road to Acquasparta, well known for the Amerino Spring, called after St. Francis, which is well attended for diseases of the kidneys. Returning towards Terni after 6 km, on the left, the famous Sangemini Spring which gushes out in a well equipped park near the bottling plant. 3 km further on is the village of Sangemini, an interesting medieval village.

Towards the medieval villages

  • 15 km from Terni along the Flaminia state road we find Narni, an old, noble town of pre-Roman origin. Continuing for about 14 km we arrive in Stroncone, situated on a hill with medieval walls and towers. Buildings dating back to 1400 and 1500 are preserved intact. A few kilometres further on the Prati, an enormous table-land (1050 mt of altitude) where it is possible to go on excursions to the Cimitelle (2 km). From Narni you can continue along the Flaminia towards Otricoli then onwards to the motorway toll booth at Magliano or turn off towards Calvi dellUmbria. In Otricoli you should visit the archaeological area and the XV century Collegiate; in Calvi the characteristic village and the surrounding hills covered in woodland.

Towards the Valnerina and Piediluco Lake

  • Going out of Terni along the Valnerina State Road, after about 13 km you take the provincial road for Montefranco. Going back onto the State Road you cross a bridge over the river Nera and enter Arrone. At the end of the village you get onto the provincial road for the village of Polino, which is about 12 km from Arrone. You descend from Polino and once you get to the fork for Arrone you turn left towards Piediluco, 12 km away, and continuing along the provincial road you arrive at Piediluco lake.

Towards the Marmore Waterfalls and Ferentillo

  • Leaving the town you arrive, after 7 km, at the Marmore Waterfalls. Continuing along the Valnerina State Road, after 11 km, you reach Ferentillo, an old village with the ruins of medieval walls constructed to defend the valley. 6 km further on you get to the Abbey of S. Pietro in Valle.
