A small sheet of water lying among the rolling Umbrian hills on the boundary of the region of Lazio, Piediluco lake is 13 km from Terni. The village winds along the banks of the lake and is dominated by the hill at the top of which is the fortress, ordered to be built by the Spanish Cardinal Albornoz in 1364.
In the village, along Corso Umberto I we find the St. Francis Church, dating back to the end of the XIII century, in gothic style with a large faÁade where two portals open out. Inside there are frescoes dating back to the 1500s. Opposite the village, on the other side of the lake, arises Mount Caperno, from which you may hear a very clear echo.
Due to particularly favourable climatic conditions and an absence of wind and currents, the Italian Rowing Federation has chosen Piediluco as the seat for the National Rowing Centre based at the Paolo dAloja Nautical Centre where, every year national and international rowing competitions are held.
Furthermore, during the year, national and foreign teams come because they find the climatic conditions ideal for training and also very modern laboratories for perfecting new techniques and material for boat racing. The lake is also suitable for other sports such as canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, fishing (various types of fish may be caught: royal perch, coregone, albarella, tench, pike, eels etc.). It is also possible to go on pleasant excursions on traditional rowing boats and also on an ecological boat, with which, going out of the lake it is possible to go up the Velino river.
In a natural environment of incomparable beauty which allows us to enjoy, at home, the fascination of explorative river navigation typical of tropical countries. The atmosphere which is breathed here permits a total immersion in the greenery whose intensity makes one forget everyday life and enter into a new dimension.
