Each one of us bears deep inside, even unwittingly, the memory of a very remote era, of things experienced by former generations, of lost sounds and rhythms. All this is part of a collective unconscious.
It is the thread of the soul which binds us to all the men who have passed before and to those who will pass after us. Every day we unconsciously strain our ears to recapture those sounds in everyday life our eyes wandering to revisit those rhythms. Around us, however, more often than not we are faced by a different scenario. This produces in our ego a sense of tenuous and penetrating absence. But there are some places where it is still possible to recover a page of our past. In the Trasimeno district, for example, as we follow the different itineraries on horseback or on foot, we breathe a mediaeval atmosphere. Skirting castles and ancient hamlets, there is the silence of the woods in our ears, made more penetrating by the sound of the horse's hooves or our own steps. Totally uncontaminated spots are there for the finding and, from the hilltops, vast natural views of water and trees are waiting to be admired. Several stables hire out horses to explore the woods.
For those who long to gallop away, but lack the necessary experience, there are riding lessons, and also the possibility of rehabilitation on horseback. For the more contemplative spirits, golf and archery are available, while the rest can chose one or more activities such as tennis, football, bicycle hikes, sailing and windsurf, with equipment of their own or on hire, relying on their own skill or taking lessons.
The most sedentary, instead, can just quietly bathe and sun themselves on one of the many little beaches, gazing at the tree-clad hills.
However, everybody would certainly feel the pleasure of crossing the lake by the ferryboat of the Provincial Navigation Service which touch the lake-shore centres and two of the three islands (Isola Maggiore and Polvese).
Before leaving, sporting or sedentary, nobody will give up the plea-sure of a fascinating and romantic night-time excursion on the lake, discerning in the distance the illumi-nated centres.
