The Restaurant Tipica Trattoria Etrusca is located in the heart of Orvieto, in via L. Maitani, the street which leads to piazza del Duomo offering a magnificent view of the Cathedral façade.
The name "tipica trattoria", however, is deceiving - only a homage to its origins - for the Tipica Trattoria Etrusca is really a great Restaurant!

The Restaurant is housed in a 16th century building, on the groundfloor, in a serene vaulted room with terracotta floor; great care is taken with service and atmosphere.
For anyone interested in Umbrian food, lunch and dinner here is a must.

The food is wonderful; not only is everything seasonable and absolutely fresh, but all the dishes rely on the excellence of the ingredients, and fortunately there are plenty of great raw materials in the vicinity.
Antipasti are usually a selection of fine salamis, local ham and cured meats, but there are many other tantalizing things such as crostini, grilled vegetables and the excellent carpaccio Chianino with fungi.

As for primi you'll find hand-made pastas such as umbrichelli, tagliolini, pappardelle, tagliatelle and gnocchi, all served in unforgettable sauces: white and black truffles, and wild mushrooms are the specialities of the house, but don't fail to try also the dishes with either asparagus or other vegetables, or the typical hare sauce.
The secondi are superb as well: the dishes range from the delicious Scottadito milk-fed lamb to the delicate rabbit all'Etrusca, from the pigeon all'Orvietana to the Buongustaio's boar; then a good range of truffled or grilled meats, accompanied with the tasty "countryside" mixed leaf salad.
Save room somehow for a dessert - all are dangerously tempting, wheeled in on a trolley - but don't leave without trying the superb trifle "all'Orvietana".

The wine cellar, housed in a medieval tufa cave, offers great wines: a large selection of Orvieto reds, Umbrian reds - among which the truly unmissable Sagrantino di Montefalco - and the big Italian names like Solaia, Tignanello, Brunello, Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Amarone and Barolo; among the white wines you'll find, of course, the best Orvieto Classico and some interesting choises from northen Italy.
